Hitman
Any computer gamer who has played Hitman will already know names such as Codename 47 and Agent Diana. This game was released in 2003 by Eidos and IO Interactive and became popular in the game industry for its originality and implementation. However, the same can’t be said about the movie.
Admittedly, there are some good things about the movie which have been perfectly captured from the game. The soundtrack is the same as that in the game and is perfect for setting the right atmosphere. Indeed, at the beginning it seems as though the movie is as good as the game.
That is, until you catch first glimpse of the central character. The first impression for many will be, “What the hell is this boy doing here?” Codename 47 is played by Timothy Olyphant. Yes, like the character in the game, he is bald and does have the barcode on the back of his head, but he’s not the right choice to play the hardened killer. Jason Statham from The Transporter would be better cast.
As Real Movie News reports the movie also departs from the main style of the game as well — stealth.
The biggest complaint fans of the game will most likely have, however, is the lack of covertness in the film. The directors seem to have forsaken the game’s main objective, which is to quietly snuff out the target, in exchange for a raucously violent version.
Real Movie News got it right there, but for gaming addicts, you should still play the game and then watch the movie. On the other hand, given the problems with the on-screen adaptation of the game, it might be better not to. A standard definition DVD will be released on 11 March so you still have a few days to complete the game.
