The Happening, directed and written by M. Night Shyamalan, stars Mark Wahlberg as Elliot Moore, Zooey Deschanel as Alma Moore and John Leguizamo as Julian. The movie combines drama, thriller and Sci–Fi and is set for a theatrical release this summer, 13 June.

The Happening is a thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to the whole of humanity. The on-going threat is neither a terroristic act, nor is it an eco-catastrophe, however it invades different states and takes hundreds of human lives.

4 Film reports that the Happening is not about a 1960s hippie event, it is more than that.

This insect kingdom mystery is subsequently followed up by one affecting the human race. “There seems to be an event happening,” intones one character cryptically as we get shots of eerie streets and anxious faces. “What’s going on?” asks Elliot of one chap. “We lost contact,” he replies. “With who?” “Everyone.”

According to SideReel, the production of the Happening began in Philadelphia in 2007.

The Happening will be released on Friday, June 13, 2008, deliberately planned to fall on Friday the 13th. Mark Wahlberg will play a man who takes his family on the run when the world turns upside and a cataclysmic natural crisis threatens to end the world.
