Valkyrie

ValkyrieThere haven’t been many good films about World War II recently, but Valkyrie might turn out to be the best period film of 2009. Directed by Bryan Singer, director of Superman Returns, and staring Tom Cruise, it certainly has a lot going for it even before its release next year. The $100 million plus film was due to his the silver screen this summer, but its release has now been delayed.

23/6 reports that delay is connected with problems but it’s unknown exactly what are the difficulties.

According to an executive of a British movie chain, “there have been all sorts of problems” with the film.

Valkyrie tells the story of the 1944 assassination plot against Adolf Hitler and Cruise plays Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, leader of plot. It already sounds interesting, but several politicians in Germany as well as Stauffenberg’s family aren’t too happy that Cruise has been cast in the leading role. However, German newspapers and filmmakers support both the film and Tom Cruise.

Enjoy the trailer.
