Reprise
Norwegian films have always appealed to many for their rich and meaningful plots. Reprise, directed by Joachim Trier and produced by Marius Holst (II), Pal Sletaune with Turid Oversveen, is no exception.
Reprise stars Espen Klouman-Hoiner, Anders Danielsen Lie, Odd Magnus Williamson, Pal Stokka and Viktoria Winge and is set to release this summer. The film details the lives of two close friends, Erik and Philip, who are trying to embark on careers in print. However, Erik is rejected by publishers as lacking in talent, while Phillip’s manuscript is accepted and the young man becomes a major name on the Norwegian cultural scene practically overnight.
Six months later, Erik and his friends visit Phillip at a psychiatric hospital to bring him home after long-term treatment. Writing is the last thing on Phillip’s mind, but Erik is continuing his literary attempts and tries to convince his friend to go back to writing. Time Out London reports that the movie is a drama that deals entertainingly with the rivalries, doubts, fears and sexual entanglements of its contrasted pair.
It’s a by-turns flip and searching rites-of-passage drama that deals entertainingly with the rivalries, doubts, fears and sexual entanglements of its contrasted pair and the wider wentysomething milieu, made with an entertaining, ‘lets-try-it’ new wave shooting style, jigsaw-construction and sure feel for mise-en-scéne.
Before the movie is released, here is the official trailer.
