The Promotion On June 6th

The PromotionIf you’re waiting for the next big comedy to hit movie theaters then The Promotion might be just the ticket. The film will be released on June 6th and is expected to be one of the best comedies of 2008.

Directed by Steve Conrad and staring Seann William Scott (American Pie) and John C. Reilly (Walk Hard), The Promotion revolves around two assistant managers of a large grocery store where they work. However, as soon as they know that there will be a promotion for a better position up for grabs and only one of them will be chosen, then friends turn into competitors.

Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly are well-known comedic actors who are able separately star in a whole number of comedy films, so putting them together should be doubly funny. That’s what was apparently in Steve Conrad’s mind when he cast the two actors.

Film School Rejects reports that The Promotion is really great.

The reason I became so endeared with this film is the fantastic performances that seemed to come out of nowhere. John C. Reilly is at his best, playing the calm, quirky “nice older guy” and Seann William Scott really delivers as the somewhat naive, timid young guy. It was an intelligently written film delivered with some of the best comedic performances I’ve seen all year, and I am happy to report that all of you might be seeing it soon, as The Weinstein Company is eyeing a June release date.

Although the film is not scheduled for general release until next month, one commenter on IMDB liked the film

I saw the film in Austin and I actually thought it was really funny….the humor is not slapstick….it’s dark humor…I loved it….the cameos are amazing too! Jason Bateman shines in this film! I think the casting job is great.

I think that in this film we really get to see what a great comedic writer Conrad is. I also love that he takes a really funny film, but gives it a realistic heart. What it comes down to are these two men trying to provide for their families. It is the American Dream at it’s core. Everyone can identify with its message. The films humor is similar to Office Space. The review from film school rejects on it was good too.

Enjoy the trailer.
