This documentary stars American comedian Bill Maher and others. The story revolves around Maher who travels around the globe interviewing people about God and religion. Religulous has something to share with Borat in terms of its style and its likely to attract a huge audience simply because of that.

According to Maher, the title of the film is a portmanteau derived from the words “religion” and “ridiculous,” implying the satirical nature of the documentary that is meant to mock the concept of religion and the problems it brings about.

In terms of plot, the movie is about a dog, Bolt, who is a superhero dog on TV, all of which makes him think he has some superpowers in real life too. After becoming separated from his TV shows and tries to readjust to normal life, he meets new friends and realizes that his powers don’t actually exist.

Originally titled American Dog, Chris Sanders was attached to write and direct. But Sander’s vison of the animated movie was a little “too bold”. His early concepts featured a one-eyed cat and an oversized radioactive rabbit (see the publicly released concept art below). Disney was supposedly looking for something a bit more “mainstream”.

When his script for the latter won an Academy Award for Best Story, the Oscar went suggestively unclaimed. Finally, in 1960, he was given full screen credit for his work on “Exodus” and “Spartacus”, thereby ending his professional exile. Yet the character of the man who emerges in this riveting documentary is much more than the sum of these parts.

The movie tells the life story of a good-natured, surf bum-turned-treasure hunter, Ben “Finn” Finnegan, who is obsessed with finding the legendary 18th century Queen’s Dowry–40 chests of exotic treasure that was lost at sea in 1715.

Finnegan sinks everything he has; including his marriage to Tess Finnegan and his more-rusty-than-trusty salvage boat, “Booty Calls” for the goal to find the treasure. However, at the end of the movie, he reunites with Tess to share their lives and fortune together.

The Boston Globe reports that Fool’s Gold plays like a product that began life as one thing in the Hollywood cannery and wound up something else.

It’s full of plastic sentiment, chases, buffoonery, and dull lewdness, not to mention the macho gay couple stuck cooking the meals on Nigel’s boat. Seventy years ago they would have been platonic black dudes. Sometimes progress stinks.

According to the New York Times, for a time the movie holds out a vague promise of romantic farce, since it seems possible that either Gemma or her dad, or perhaps both, might become an obstacle to Tess and Finn’s inevitable reconciliation.

And so the prospect of fireworks between Finn and Tess is quickly dampened, and the movie turns into a dull, noisy pursuit of old Spanish coins, aided by maps and letters and enough pseudohistorical explanation to round out the next episode in the “National Treasure” franchise. Will Finn and Tess find the treasure before the bad guys? Will they put aside their differences and rekindle their love? Yes to both questions! I haven’t spoiled anything, by the way. But perhaps I’ve saved you some trouble.

Red Roses and Petrol has a rich and impressive cast; starring Malcolm McDowell, Olivia Tracy, Heather Juergensen, Max Beesley and Susan Lynch. The movie tells the story of Enda Doyle’s family, who gathers in Dublin for his wake. However, during their short stay in Dublin, the family manage to decipher the emotional dynamics of familial relationships with sharp humor and surprising turns.

Throughout the ensuing arguments, which reach a fevered pitch as the family gets inebriated waiting for guests to arrive for the wake, we learn about the powerful and ambiguous force that was Enda Doyle. Finally, Catherine cannot contain herself and accuses Moya of being blind to her husband’s infidelity and by extension causing great harm to herself and her children. Historical movies are not among my favorites but I am more than sure that people who have interests in the wine industry will find the new upcoming film of Randall M. Miller, Bottle Shock, very appealing to watch. The movie is set for theatrical release this summer.

Bottle Shock is produced by Jody Savin and Marc Toberoff and has an impressive cast starring Freddy Rodriguez, Chris Pine, Rachael Taylor, Eliza Dushku with Bill Pullman. The movie tells the story of the birth of California’s Napa wine industry, and their triumph over the French at the 1976 Paris Tastings.

Rotten Tomatoes reports that based on a true story, the film reveals America’s initiation into and contribution to vinification, along with the brave and enterprising artisans who love nothing more than to bottle it.

It’s 1976, and Jim Barrett (Bill Pullman) is struggling to create the perfect chardonnay at Chateau Montelena, his vineyard in the not-yet-famous Napa Valley, where he has jeopardized everything for a dream. His son, Bo (Chris Pine), at first glance doesn’t seem to have inherited his father’s love for the family business, and the two of them are often found duking it out in the backyard boxing ring, each hoping to knock some sense into the other.

According to Bloomberg.com, director and co-screenwriter Randall Miller insisted in a phone interview that “Bottle Shock” is “as close to the truth as possible.”

The movie is written by Ann Peacock and Valerie Tripp and has an impressive cast; starring Abigail Breslin as Kit Kittredge, Julia Ormond as Mrs. Kittredge, Max Thieriot as Will, Chris O’Donnell as Mr. Kittredge and Stanley Tucci as Uncle Hendrick.

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl revolves around a young and talented girl, Kit Kittredge, who is a natural born leader. However, Kit’s happy childhood is abruptly interrupted when her father loses his car dealership and must leave Cincinnati to look for work. Kit and her mother Margaret are left alone to manage on their own, growing vegetables and selling eggs.

Rotten Tomatoes reports that when Kit’s mother and their boarders become the latest victims in a string of robberies, Kit’s loyalties are tested.

Will is accused of the crimes and, with all of their savings gone, the Kittredges face losing their house to foreclosure. Determined to recover the stolen money and believing Will is innocent, Kit recruits her friends Ruthie (Madison Davenport) and Stirling (Zach Mills) to help her track down the real culprit. Together they uncover a plot that goes far beyond Cincinnati!

First Sunday was released this past Spring and was accepted by its viewers very well. Produced by Julie Silverman-Yorn (II), Stacy Cramer and Neil A. Machlis, the movie boasts a rich cast starring Ice Cube, Katt Williams, Tracy Morgan, Loretta Devine and Michael Beach.

The movie revolves around two close friends, Durell and LeeJohn, both of who are criminals. When Durell learns that his ex-girlfriend plans to move to another state with their son — unless he can get her $17,000 to pay off a debt– he comes up with a plan to rob a neighborhood church. However, during their robbery, Durell’s assembled team discovers more than they have bargained for.

According to New York Times, the question, “What Kind of a person would steal a church?” occupies most of the movie’s slow, talky middle third, in which an easy in-and-out safecracking scheme turns into a hostage drama.

Durell and LeeJohn’s captives include the wise pastor (Chi McBride); his pretty, headstrong daughter (Malinda Williams); a shifty deacon (Michael Beach) and the flamboyantly queeny choir director (Katt Williams), among other easily recognizable church-movie stock figures.

Spill.com reports that First Sunday just shows how a pair of criminals who take a group of church parishioners hostage while attempting to rob the holy house, only to find their captives slowly convincing them to repent and give up their lawless lifestyles.

But someone has beaten Durell and LeeJohn to the punch, and if they ever hope to get their hands on that quick cash, this bumbling pair will first have to spend an entire night in the presence of not just the almighty lord, but some of his most fervent followers as well. Katt Williams, Keith David, Regina Hall, and Chi Mcbride co-star.
